Summer is actually my LEAST favorite season to dress for. I hate being hot, so I really need to put in some effort when getting dressed – after all, I still want to look and feel my best! I get a lot of my casual summer outfit ideas from Pinterest and other creators, so I thought it would be fun to put together a post with some outfit ideas!
Casual Summer Outfit Ideas
When it comes to getting dressed for the day in the summer, I keep three things in mind:
- Stay as cool as possible by opting for flower dresses and summer fabrics (like linen!)
- incorporate a “third piece” element to elevate the look
- Keep my three words in mind: classic, fun, and approachable
Midi Dress and Sandals
A dress for summer? Groundbreaking. Dresses are probably the most summer-appropriate piece of clothing you could find. I personally lean into linen and poplin dresses. I also really love a longer, flowy dress to keep me semi-covered, but still cool.

Cotton Tank and Barrel Leg Jeans
Barrel leg jeans are all the rage right now, yet still pretty polarizing. I do love a loose jean, so I definitely gravitated towards them. I think they are the perfect base for a casual summer outfit!

Denim Shorts and a Light-Weight Top
I think I’ve gotten my denim to a pretty great place. This summer, I started working on my denim shorts collection. I like the idea of having different lengths in my wardrobe – mainly short and mid length. An easy, lightweight cotton top is perfect paired with denim shorts. I love the juxtaposition of a long sleeve top with short denim shorts, but if it’s just too brutally hot, I’d opt for this one!

Boxer Shorts and a Graphic Sweatshirt
Boxers are one of my current wardrobe hyper-fixations. I started wearing them last summer and was so excited for the warm weather again so I could wear them. I typically get my boxers from Amazon, so I don’t feel like I’m really spending a ton of money on a “trendy” piece. Oh and obvious bonus points because you can actually wear them to bed???

Linen Pants and a Cotton Tank
I’m a HUGE linen girlie. I love that linen looks so lived in, just adding to the casual summer outfit vibes that I’m always striving for. Linen pants are so easy to just throw on and go. You can wear them with a T-shirt, a more dressed-up top, or a linen button-down. I wear my linen pants at least 4 times a week – they are just the best. OH AND FRIENDLY REMINDER: Linen is going to wrinkle and that’s OK, it looks good when it’s wrinkled!

Cotton Dress and Sandals
When in doubt, wear a cotton dress. Designed to keep you cool, I’m always reaching for a casual cotton dress on the hottest of days. To elevate it further, I’ll incorporate a third piece like this sweater. And since I live in the city, a hands-free bag is a must-have!

Boxer Shorts and a Lightweight Top
Continuing with my boxer short obsession, I have been styling mine with a cotton tank and my favorite oversized button-down. It feels easy and no frills, while still looking put together!
