OOOOOH BOY do I love a controversial trend. There are actually a few of them around right now, but today we’re focusing on a big one – MESH FLATS. I’m probably mesh flats #1 fan at this point. If you didn’t know, the fashion world works pretty far out in advance. Since I happen to work in the fashion industry full time, I’m able to learn about what trends will appear in the next 6-8 months. So I always knew mesh shoe trend was coming, but I didn’t think it would take off the way it has in recently.
I’m surprisingly really into shoes. I don’t know why that’s so surprising, but to me it is. But anyway, when we’re thinking about trends, it sometimes feels like they come out of nowhere. But when you actually think about it, trends generally come from somewhere else. Think about ballet flats. They really made such a resurgence over the last few years. And I’m sure glad they did.
The Mesh Shoe Trend
So now here comes the mesh shoe trend. The first pair of mesh flats I remember were from Alaia. Yeah you know the ones (and I found an excellent dupe). Then, Khaite did an incredible pair (again, found an amazing dupe). And then we starting seeing more specialty retailers come up with their own versions — some embellished, some solid, some mesh, some netted. And now we’re seeing a lot of mesh shoes coming to mass market — Mango, COS, Sam Edelman, etc.
I personally have always loved the mesh shoe trend. I didn’t think it was weird (because yah, your toes do show), I thought they were pretty cool right off the bat. I couldn’t justify spending the money on a designer pair (although I do love my Gucci, Chanel, and Hermes shoes – check out those posts for more).
Right now, I cannot stop wearing this pair. They are insanely comfortable and think they add a little somethin’ somethin’ to any outfit. This is also a fun fact, but I just got my first pedicure of the season, and can confirm mesh flats look even more amazing with a pop color on your toes;)
I’ve rounded up mesh flats that I’ve found from so many different retailers – just proving that they’re EVERYWHERE. A quick Google search of mesh flats brings you to an entire world of shoes. Now that the weather is warming up, you’re going to see just how many girls are into the mesh shoe trend.<
