As much as I dislike dressing for summer most of the time, there are a couple of pieces that I do get excited about. The Hermes Orans are definitely one of those pieces. I know designer purchases are tough to make, that’s why I wanted to give you this detailed review of the Hermes Oran sandals! Designer shoes, specifically, can be tough to pull the trigger on. Speaking from my own experience, these sandals, the Gucci loafers and mules (this post is one of my top posts of all time), and the Chanel ballet flats are ones that I will ALWAYS recommend if you’re looking to treat yourself. They’re definitely my splurge shoes, and ones I wear ALL. OF. THE. TIME.
Hermes Oran Sandals Review
When I realized I wanted to do a review of these sandals, I did some research about the Oran and their history. Turns out the Hermes Oran sandals have been on people’s feet since 1997. That should be your first green flag for this sandal – they certainly will NEVER go out of style. I’m just going to come out and say it: Yes, they’re worth it. I have to admit, mine were a gift from Rob for my birthday. Although I didn’t pay for them myself, I’m already thinking about another color because I really do love the!
How do the Hermes Oran Sandals run?
I was really happy that I ended up going to the Madison Avenue store to try on these. I’m typically a size 6/36 in everything, but I wanted to try on a half size down as well as a half size up…JUST IN CASE. In the end, I went with my normal size. I would say if you’re between sizes, take the half size up. If you have a wider foot, DEFINITELY look into a half or full size up!
How much are they?
They’re a splurge, for sure. The classic Oran is $760 (as of May 2024, and will probably continue to increase – I bought my white pair for $700 in 2022). When it comes to Spring and Summer, I’m usually reaching for them. So to me, the cost per wear is VERY low by the end of summer. And to be honest, I can get away with wearing them in September as well.
Are the Hermes Oran sandals worth it?
If these shoes are within your budget and you’re looking to treat yourself, yes they’re absolutely worth it. You can check out this post to learn more about how I think about designer purchases. If they’re not in your budget, nope not worth it. But let’s just say you’re seriously considering buying the Hermes Oran sandals. Even though they’re such a seasonal shoe, they truly will never go out of style. They’re not a trendy sandal, and after seeing how well they’ve held up for my sister and friends – these are made to last.
Are they comfortable?
So I was skeptical about this. I remember walking through Central Park with my sister last year, and her feet were UNWELL. I still ended up getting them a little later in the summer, so I didn’t fully break them in. They weren’t uncomfortable. Then this year, the first time I wore them on a walk to get some coffee…I got blisters. I was so upset that they were uncomfortable. But I realized that you really just need to break in the leather. I was nervous about getting blisters again, so last week I ended up commuting in different shoes, and changed into these at the office. I’m here to deliver good news: I wore them all day around the office with no issue!!! I feel like these are the types of shoes that mold to your feet over time!
Which color?
There are SO many iterations of the Hermes Oran sandals – fabrics, colors, etc. I would recommend one of these colors for your first pair: White, Black, or Cognac (“gold” on site). I went with White because I didn’t have a white sandal for “every day”…actually I didn’t have any white sandal. This year, I decided to spluge on the gold color because I realized I was REALLY missing it in my wardrobe. But you can’t go wrong with one of those three neutral colors – it all depends on your own closet!
Where can I buy Hermes Oran sandals?
I purchased mine at the Hermes store on Madison Ave., but you can also purchase on the Hermes website. I believe they have pretty fast shipping (a few business days), in case you already are pretty confident in your size. If you’re looking to purchase secondhand, I recommend Fashionphile!
Any similar looks for less?
Because the Hermes Orans are so popular, tons of brands have created dupes of these sandals — many of which look nearly identical. I also think everyone should be able to buy pieces that they love and work within their budget! I recently purchased these on Amazon because I am not quite ready to splurge on ANOTHER new pair. They’re obviously SUPER similar – the differences to me are the soles: they’re rubber and slightly thicker than the Orans. I will say these in particular run BIG, I had to size down to a 5. I can’t quite speak to the quality in terms of how long these are going to last me, but so far so good! I also have heard good things about this pair and this pair.
At the end of the day, I really do think the Hermes Oran Sandals are such a great designer purchase. Whether you want to treat yourself or are just looking for a new wardrobe staple, these sandals live up to the hype.
